Overview
Red Sonja is a 2D brawler currently in development. The game is still in pre-production but myself, an engineer and an artist put together a demo of intended functionality for GDC 2017. Shown here is the demo level we put together.
For the level we wanted to showcase intended gameplay, combat, enemy design and art direction. I worked with the artist to create base level chunks. I then took those level chunks into Unity and built the base path the player would take. After that, I worked with our engineer to develop the different gameplay and combat mechanics. Once we had mechanics I went about implementing the different triggers in the level that would spawn enemies and create fight zones, save points, and cinematic triggers.
Once the base path was complete our artist started creating decoration assets that I then took and implemented in the level. For full production I've also created a GDD and gameplay cinematic script that we are using to build out the rest of the game.
Responsibilities for the Demo:
- Level design/building
- Working with artist to create base level chunks
- Placing game objects and triggers in levels to spawn enemies, create fight zones, trigger save points and trigger cinematics.
- Animated cinematic cameras
- Implementing level decoration
- Handling level lighting
- Placing particle emitters and other animated decoration assets
- Tuning and balanced level combat for desired difficulty
